YES- Which is probabLy how they got in your house. They could have come in on second hand furniture, clothing, coats, shoes, flowers they lay about 100 eggs a time which can hatch in as little as 10 days . They will eat pretty much everything Leather , paper, curtains, carpets , clothing
Carpet beetle go into a cocoon like butterflies they can stay this way for months when they do hatch out they become Carpet Moths however it is usually the larvae that do the damage (this is when they look like little maggots) Regular vacuuming will help but once you have them you need a Pest Controller to get rid of them with specialised chemicals only available to Pest controllers that are trained to use them.
This depends on your property , how bad infestation is and how big area is all soft furnishings will need treating and the treatment will need to be done twice to guarantee you are rid of the problem. F & D are very reasonable and will tell you the EXACT COSTS BEFORE starting any treatment
